Tuesday NBC Primetime: Knicks at Rockets With Sharp Money on the Move
The NBA’s stretch run hits primetime Tuesday night with the Knicks traveling to Houston for an 8 PM tip on NBC. These two met five weeks ago in Houston, where New York survived 108-106 after the Rockets blew an 18-point fourth-quarter lead. The line says this is a coin flip. The money says otherwise.
Knicks -1.5 at Rockets (8:00 PM ET, NBC)
New York comes in at 48-27 after a Sunday loss in Oklahoma City, 111-100. Jalen Brunson still put up 32 points on 13-of-22 shooting, Karl-Anthony Towns grabbed 18 boards, and Josh Hart knocked down 5 threes. The Knicks couldn’t keep pace with the league’s best team, but the individual performances were there — Brunson in particular looks locked in heading into this one.
Houston is 45-29 and riding high off a 134-102 demolition of the Pelicans on Sunday. Alperen Sengun was unreal — 36 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 threes, zero turnovers. Kevin Durant added 20 and Tari Eason poured in 15 off the bench. On paper, the Rockets look locked in.
But the market tells a different story. Only 48% of bets are on New York’s spread, yet 54% of the money sides with the Knicks. The moneyline is even cleaner: 51% of bets but 55% of money on New York. That divergence between ticket count and dollar volume is the textbook sharp money signature — the big accounts are backing the road team.
Houston’s recent ATS record is brutal. The Rockets are covering just 20% of the time over their last 10 games, bleeding 6.18 units. The blowout win over New Orleans masked a deeper trend: Houston has been losing against the number consistently, and that Pelicans game was against a 25-51 team. The Knicks are a different animal.
Then there’s the head-to-head history. New York owns this matchup — 80% straight up in the last 10 meetings. The February game in this same building ended with Houston choking away that 18-point fourth-quarter cushion. The Rockets have the talent, but something about playing the Knicks gets in their head.
The pick: Knicks -1.5 (even), 2 units
The Total: 217.5 — Which Way Are the Sharps Leaning?
The total has moved two full points from its 219.5 open, and the bet-versus-money split on this number is one of the most lopsided we’ve seen all season. Something is going on beneath the surface.
The case for over: Houston just hung 134 on the Pelicans with Sengun, Durant, and Eason all firing. The Rockets have five players with props north of 13.5 points tonight. New York’s offense flows through Brunson, who dropped 32 on OKC and has the usage rate to push pace against Houston’s younger defenders.
The case for under: Both teams have split 50/50 on the over/under in their last 10 games. Head-to-head, these two have gone under in 6 of 10 meetings. And Sunday’s context cuts both ways — Houston’s 134 came against a 25-51 Pelicans team, while the Knicks managed just 100 against elite OKC defense.
There’s a clear signal in the line movement and money percentages that points to one side. We’re on it with a 3-unit play — our highest-confidence pick of the night.
